  • After I complete the 40 hour ALR Administrator Course, how do I become a licensed administrator in Colorado?

    The state of Colorado does not require a licensure to be an administrator of an assisted living.  The course provides a certificate of completion that is maintained in a personnel file for review by the health department during surveys.  

  • How long does the licensure process take to open an assisted living?

    Typically, the licensure process for a new assisted living or a change of ownership can take anywhere from 60-90 days depending on the accuracy of documents during the application process.  

  • I want to convert my home to an assisted living.  What first steps should I take?

    We would recommend that the following steps:


    • Speak to a consultant to evaluate the home
    • Create a business planContact your local city & county zoning
    • Contact the HOA (if applicable)
    • Contact the Division of Fire Prevention & Control regarding Life Safety and fire suppression system requirements. 
    • Complete the necessary business filings required to start a business in the state of Colorado
    • Take the 40 hour ALR administrator course
